I first heard it on X Factor this evening, sung by Danny Evans before he was voted out, and the words just captivated me.
I googled in search of the lyrics, and I was surprised to see how many people have actually sung it from the late '60s till now.
Not in any order
Cece Winan
Whitney Houston
Luther Vandross
Aretha Franklin
Natalie Cole
Leona Lewis
Paul Simon
Johnny Cash
Art Garfunkel
But I think the original is by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
I noted there was a version done for Obama recently (check 'My Music' by the side).
I just love the words, it kind of makes me think of Jesus on my side when all is not working for me.
When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes,
I will dry them all;
I'm on your side.
when times get rough
And friends just cant be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
When youre down and out,
When youre on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I'll take your part.
When darkness comes
And pains is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Sail on silver girl,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Flowerly Maua
- Maua
- I smile recklessly and I love excessively. I live today knowing I have no other day until tomorrow. Now is my moment. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is a mystery, but today, today is my gift (present).
